The article "The Best American Holiday" by "Bill Bryson" appears in the book "I'm a Stranger Here Myself." Although some people think that Christmas is the best American holiday, the author believes that Thanksgiving is the best American holiday.
In this article the author talks about his favorite holiday, Thanksgiving. He starts by describing his mom's poor culinary skill . However, on Thanksgiving he is surprised by a Thanksgiving dinner his mom had created in which he describes as perfect. With that experience, he describes to us how Thanksgiving was formed and the reasons behind the holiday. One of the reasons that he concludes is that Thanksgiving allows us to give thanks. The author proceeds to give thanks, but he soon finds out that there is a downside to Thanksgiving. It starts the time to prepare for Christmas.

Bill Bryson's chapter "The Best American Holiday" made some really good points. I agree that Thanksgiving is the best Holiday. Thanksgiving is a time for us to get away from our busy schedules. It allows us to celebrate each others company in front of good food. My family is very big and my family lives everywhere all over the states. So Thanksgiving is the time each year where we all can come together. This allows us to reconnect with the people we missed. Also i agree with Bryson's statement about how Thanksgiving is the time for us to give thanks. Rarely do we take the time to look at what we have been given. Thanksgiving gives us the time to look at those things and give thanks. I also agree when Bryson talks about how he dreads getting ready for Christmas. Getting your house ready for christmas is hard work. I usually am the one that has to get the christmas tree out, put the lights out and etc. So I know how Bryson feels about it. However, Thanksgiving is a special time that only happens once a year, so i always look forward to it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Bill Bryson because Christmas might be the best holliday for some Americans, but not all because there are a lot of different holidays that Americans celebrate. Americans celebrate many different holidays like kwanzaa,hanukkah and eid.

I personally i gree that thanksgiving is the best american holidays because in thanksgving people give appreciat for what they had.and it is one of the american popular holidays,where everybody in family came together and had dinners,it also show that how they thank to the indians who welcome them.
